Harvey Vineyards : Profile
Situated amongst the magnificent oak studded rolling hills of Southern Monterey County, Harvey Vineyards was originally planted in 1992 with 28 acres of Merlot on 110R & Freedom Root-stocks.
The vineyard features mature vines on a quadrilateral cordon, spaced at 7 × 12 that are carefully managed to produce a limited yield of consistently high quality grapes. Well balanced fruit that combine both a deep red color & wonderful flavor.
In 2009 we experimented with a test program where 2 rows of each root-stock were cut and retrained to a bilateral cordon. This proved to be very successful in both rejuvenating tired vines and updating to a system that will eventually allow mechanical harvesting. In 2010 we converted a further 9.3 acres to a bilateral cordon
In 2011 we started a diversification program by grafting over 6 acres to Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec & Petit Verdot.
Future plans include further grafting/planting more Cabernet Sauvignon & Petit Verdot.
